Public & Societal Benefit (34.58%) includes areas of community improvement, volunteerism, unemployment, employee associations, military and veterans’ support, neighborhood associations, some life insurance providers, cemeteries and foundations.
Human Services (27.01%) tackle some of the region’s most pressing issues, including child welfare, shelters, food and nutrition, public safety, disaster response, youth development and employment.
Kansas City nonprofits do rely on contributions and grants, but mostly generate funds from fees for programs and services. Donations continue to be important, but program and service fees are more sustainable.
